The Hand of Destiny

The Hand of Destiny

The Power Behind Life’s Great Design

People make long-term plans throughout life, like at such and such a time, I will do such and such, etc. But when it is time to do those things, all planning becomes useless. Then he realizes that nothing is under his control. He says, “I never thought of it like that, I never imagined it would happen like that, etc.”

 Ali ibn Abi Talib

  • I recognized Allah through revoking of determination and the breaking of the decisions.

It is an irrefutable fact that nothing is within man’s own power and control. Everything is in Allah’s Hand of Power. He is the one who is managing the order of life.
 Allah says:

  • So, Glory be to Him in Whose Hand (i.e., power and control) is the sovereignty over everything. (36:83)

Blessed is He in Whose (Powerful) Hand is the kingdom (of all the worlds). (67:1)

Allah is the Creator

Indeed, Allah is the Creator and Master of this vast universe and He created it for His recognition and manifestation.
He says in the Quran:

  • And He (Allah) is the One Who created the heavens and the earth (the higher and the lower strata of the universe) in six phases (i.e., six phases or aeons of creation and evolution). (11:7)

The universe’s vastness is beyond human comprehension. Even if humans spend their whole lives, they can’t fully understand even Earth. While Allah has created millions of similar planets. The galaxy in which our solar system is located is so vast that it would take 100,000 years to travel across it at the speed of light. There are countless galaxies like ours in the universe. This shows and grandeur of the Lord of the universe. Still, no one knows why people are so stubborn.

Allah is the Provider

A person’s biggest concern is fulfilment of his needs, needs of his family and friends, their well-being after his death, etc. However, Allah has freed man from this worry by saying:

  • And there is no moving creature (living being) on the Earth but (that) its sustenance is (a bountiful obligation) upon Allah. (11:6)

Sustenance does not just mean food and drinks, but everything a person needs is sustenance. A person’s sustenance is already written in fate before he comes into this world. Despite this, people wander around in search of sustenance and pursue it day and night, even though it is not within their control. That is why people should seek the Creator rather than the means.

Allah is the Master of Profit and Loss

Losses always sadden people and gains always make them happy. They blame themselves or others for losses and praises themselves for profit, believing that their efforts and intellect has brought this profit. The reality is that neither profit nor loss is under their control. If someone receives something that they like or benefit from, it is a gift and blessing from Allah. And if any harm or injury befalls them, then this too contains Allah’s countless wisdoms.
Allah says:

  • (Also) tell (them): ‘I do not have any control over profit and loss for myself, except (that much) which Allah wills. (7:188)
  • And if Allah afflicts you with some suffering, there is none who can remove it but He, and if He bestows some good upon you, then He wields full power over everything. (6:17)

And if Allah afflicts you with some distress, then there is none who can remove it but He. And if He intends any good for you, then there is none who can repel His bounty. (10:107)

Allah is the One Who Removes Difficulties

Whenever a person faces difficulty, they immediately turn to available means. However, when those means fail to resolve the problem, they seek help from relatives and close ones. But even there, they face disappointment because in this world, no one truly comes to another’s aid. It is often said that even one’s own shadow abandons them in times of hardship. A person should present every difficulty and need before Allah. However, when Allah, out of His Grace, saves a person from that difficulty and trial, the person then becomes heedless of Allah. As Allah has described this behavior in the following words:

  • And when suffering afflicts people, they call upon their Lord turning towards Him, but when He delights them with the taste of mercy from Him, then some of them straight away start setting up partners with their Lord. (30:33)

And when a misery touches (such a) man, he calls out to Us whilst lying on his side or sitting or standing. But when We remove from him his affliction, he passes on (forgetting Us) as if he (never) called out to Us in the pain that had touched him. (10:12)

Life and Death is in Allah’s Hands

Humans are extremely helpless. They have no control over their own life or death. Nor are they capable of keeping someone alive or causing death. But if one person threatens another with murder, they become fearful. As long as a person’s appointed time of death has not arrived, no one can harm them even by a hair’s breadth. However, when a person forgets about death, they become engrossed in worldly life and consider it to be everything. Meanwhile, death is constantly pursuing them and they can fall prey to it at any moment. Believing that someone’s life will be taken because of such and such, or that someone’s life will be saved because such and such, is completely wrong. All causes are also created by Allah because the power over life and death belongs only to Him. Regarding this, Allah Almighty has stated:

  • And He is the One Who gives life and causes death. (23:80)
  • His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He is the One Who gives life and causes death. (57:2)

Say: ‘Allah is the One Who gives you life, and He is the One Who causes you to die. (45:26)

Illness and Healing is in His Hand

Most people blame others by saying, “I became ill because of you” or “I recovered because of you.” Their belief is baseless. Both illness and healing are in Allah’s Hands. If someone is ill only Allah can heal him. In such cases, believing that you became ill due to someone’s actions and then recovered by taking medicine prescribed by a doctor is not an appropriate way of thinking. Physically, it is important to take medicine and get treatment but believing illness and healing to be from Allah is faith. As it is written in the Quran:

  • And when I fall ill, He is the One Who cures me. (26:80)

Respect and Humiliation is in Allah’s Hands

The power to grant respect and humiliation also belongs to Allah. If people respect someone, they may become arrogant, considering themselves superior to others. And if someone disrespects them, they harbor resentment and hatred in their heart, thinking that the person humiliated them for no reason.

If someone respects you, your belief should be that it is Allah who is bestowing honor; otherwise, I am just an ordinary person. And if someone disrespects you, it should also be seen as coming from Allah—that there must be some flaw or shortcoming within me, and this situation is a means of my guidance and refinement from Allah.
 Allah says:

(O My Beloved!) Submit (like this): ‘O Allah, Lord of sovereignty! You bestow sovereignty on whom You will, and You take away sovereignty from whom You will. You confer honor on whom You will, and You dishonor whom You will. (3:26)

Children are Granted by Allah’s Will

Often, men or other relatives taunt the woman for not having children or criticize her for giving birth to only daughters. Their behavior is extremely ignorant. Granting children, whether a son or a daughter, is entirely in Allah’s control.
Allah says:

  • For Allah alone is the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He likes. He blesses with girls whom He wills and blesses with boys whom He wills. Or He gives them daughters and sons (both) and makes infertile whom He wills. (42:49-50)

Similarly, there are countless signs of Allah that He has mentioned in the Quran. If a person reflects upon these signs, their intellect will truly be astonished. The vast universe, the sun and moon moving within their fixed limits and benefiting humanity, the immense seas carrying ships weighing thousands of tons loaded with trade goods and passengers, the creation of animals and birds, crops, trees, fruits, vegetables, and colorful flowers—countless blessings of various kinds. In short, if one tries to count Allah’s blessings, it would be impossible. Wherever you look, the craftsmanship of Allah is evident. Man cannot even create a tiny ant. Everything is in Allah’s Hand, and He encompasses all things.

Allah says:

  • Well, Who has created the heavens and the earth and poured down water for you from the atmosphere in the sky? Then with that (water), We brought forth fresh and beautiful gardens. It was not possible for you to grow plants in these (gardens). Is there any (other) God besides Allah? (27:60)
  • Or, Who made the earth a dwelling place and made rivers amid it and made for it huge mountains and put a barrier between the two seas (of salt and sweet waters)? Is there any (other) God besides Allah? (27:61)
  • Or, Who guides you in the darkness of land and sea and sends winds as good news before (the rain of) His mercy? Is there any (other) God besides Allah? (27:63)
  • Well, Who originates creation and shall repeat the same (process of creation), and Who grants you sustenance from the heavens and the earth? Is there any (other) God besides Allah? (27:64)

Conclusion

People should reflect on Allah’s signs, observe His power, and offer praise and gratitude to Him. This universe and its system are in Allah’s Hand. That is why one should turn to Allah in every matter and difficulty. People should always consider themselves humble and weak before Allah. They should strengthen their esoteric and spiritual connection with Allah. One should long to behold Him, for the One who created such a beautiful universe must Himself be infinitely more beautiful. Divine vision and gnosis are the main reason for creation of man and no blessing is greater than Divine vision. Allah has granted countless blessings of the universe to humans without them even asking. But the question of attaining His vision has been left to human choice. The decision is in their own hands.
